Harvey Pullings, II

Independent Film Director | Creative Artist

While attending Columbia College Chicago, I interned for the Chicago division of Allied Integrated Marketing, where I assisted in regional marketing, skewed marketing and promotion of films and TV for studios: A24, Universal Studios, Disney, ABC and NBC. I would also assist in Q&A photography for special screening events and studio reports, capturing images of Alex Garland, Eddie Redmayne and others. During this time, I would also shoot concert photography for hip-hop artists Curren$y, Mobb Deep and Joe Budden, during tour stops in the Chicagoland area, as well as the Suicide Girls’ Blackheart Burlesque show. My final and biggest internship came as an Extras Casting Assistant, for the controversial Spike Lee joint, Chiraq. I credit that experience as the boost of confidence and moment of clarity I needed while pursuing the creative and film industries.

Thematically, much of my work is focused on the perspectives of the “common man’s turmoil." Something that I believe is rooted in our struggles of identity. I grew up in a household of film lovers and religious, blue collar workers. My middle class upbringing helped shaped my perspective of life through the lens of the inner city. Contrary, to what media portrays (ironically), my viewpoint of life within what many consider the Black American ghetto is complicated, but humbled and warm. Even with its obvious shortcomings.
